Open Shot

Posted by David Kostenberger on September 6, 2012 at 4:05 PM Comments comments (0)

The "Great One," Wayne Gretzky, a famous hockey player, once said, “You miss 100 percent of the shots you never take.” It's a pathetic and wasted life if one has so many opportunities in front of him and misses them, or doesn't jump out in faith, and glorifies God through those opportunities.

There is nothing more tragic than for a person to totally miss opportunities that God puts right in front of them and then later has regrets about something that they could've done b...

The Family

Posted by David Kostenberger on August 5, 2012 at 9:30 PM Comments comments (0)

“Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it” (Genesis 1:28). In the first book of the Bible in the first chapter, God already commanded Adam and Eve to multiply. The family is a very important biblical concept, but unfortunately what has been considered as a “normal” family, consisting of a mom, dad, and kids who love one another, has now in today’s society become a matter of disput...

Relationships

Posted by David Kostenberger on March 29, 2012 at 3:50 PM Comments comments (0)

Does God want me to have a boyfriend/girlfriend? If so how far should I go? How should I treat my annoying siblings? How can I glorify God through all my relationships? Should I obey my boss even if he says to do something I disagree with? These are the types of questions that people struggle with every day. We’re made for relationships with other people and our culture tells us how our relationships with others are supposed to be and it’s very important to know what the Bibl...

Jesus

Posted by David Kostenberger on March 29, 2012 at 3:30 PM Comments comments (0)

Someone once asked me what I believe about Jesus and who I thought He was. Just to clarify, Christ is not Jesus's last name. Christ means "annointed" or "Messiah", so Jesus the annointed or Jesus the Messiah. According to the Bible (and what I believe), Jesus is the Son of God (Matthew 16:16) who came to earth (Matthew 1-2) and was born by a virgin (Luke 1:27) through the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:35). Jesus "did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many" (Matth...

Tim Tebow

Posted by David Kostenberger on December 13, 2011 at 5:30 PM Comments comments (2)

Tim Tebow is one of the most talked about players in football today. If you don't know who he is, he's currently the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos (his second year). During college he won Florida a National Championship as well as a Heisman (which is a huge deal!). He was drafted in 2010 by the Denver Broncos. Before he was drafted however, many people though that he would never make it into the NFL becau...

Thankfulness

Posted by David Kostenberger on December 7, 2011 at 2:05 PM Comments comments (0)

What are you thankful for? Normally around November, especially on Thanksgiving, people are thinking about that, but I have a question for you. When something good happens, like you barely avoid a collision while driving or someone becomes a Christian or you save some money do you take 3 seconds to thank God for his provision in your life as well as others? And not just on Thanksgiving, but all the time? Or are you in to much of a rush? God wants to have a close relati...

Second Chances

Tory sat nervously in the pew at church and waited for Pastor Chad to call her up. She was SO nervous! She ran over what she was going to say in her mind. Pastor Chad summoned Tory to the stage, but she could not move. She was frozen with fear! He cleared his throat and called her again. This time Tory stood up and walked to the stage. Pastor Chad introduced her and handed her the microphone. Tory took a deep breath and as she did, thoughts of everything that happened to get her to th...

Steve Jobs (1955-2011)

Posted by David Kostenberger on October 8, 2011 at 8:50 PM Comments comments (0)

The co-founder, chairman, and cheif executive officer (CEO) of Apple Incorporated died this past week on October 5 from a rare form of pacreatic cancer. On Apple's homepage they have a picure of Steve Jobs simply with his name and lifespan and on other websites such as Google had links to Apple's page all in honor of him. Most people would consider his life as very sucessful, yet I think slightly different.

Although his "brilliance, passion and energy" (Apple Statement's of Job's dea...

Worldliness

Posted by David Kostenberger on October 3, 2011 at 2:30 PM Comments comments (2)

Do you know what it's like when there's tons of pressure in to be perfect? And you know what your parents expect from you, but your friends expect another thing from you, and still others want you to do and act differently? But above all that you know that you should only care what God expects and thinks of you?

Sometimes it's hard to remember that. Especially when you already have a busy enough life as it is. And just about when you think you’ve had it w...

Angel Macias

Posted by David Kostenberger on September 25, 2011 at 4:00 PM Comments comments (0)

In the 1957 Little League World Series the first Mexican team ever to participate conquered the division and went on to defeat California in the finals. Their pitcher, Angel Macias, in the pitched an unbelievable perfect game, setting a record for being the first and only one to throw a perfect game up until 2010.

The Mexican team crossed the US border in early July with 3-day passes, the plan being to compete in a tournament in McAllen, Texas for a day and th...

As you may have noticed Wingslikeagles has been under construction for just a few days as I have made a few changes. I just was learning and testing out some CSS stuff I thought was cool (I must be a real nerd, huh?). Just try to avoid coming on my website using Internet Explorer, if at all possible, because most of the codes won't work and it might look a little strange. Try using Safari, Google Chrome, or Firefox. The navigation bar up top is even more accessible no matter where y...

USA 2012

Posted by David Kostenberger on September 21, 2011 at 8:45 PM Comments comments (2)

With the 2012 election coming up everyone is talking about who the republican nominee is going to be. I'm thinking either Rick Santorum or Mitt Romney. Why? Because I think those are the two that might stand a chance against Barrack Obama. I heard on the radio (FOX or CNN maybe?) on my way home one time that when Obama got elected he said something about the huge debt George Bush acquired when he was in office...a whopping 3 trillion dollars in 8 years. Now Obam...

Mariano Rivera

Posted by Josh on September 19, 2011 at 5:40 PM Comments comments (0)

Today, Mariano Rivera of the New York Yankees became the all-time leader in saves in MLB history. With his 43rd save he broke Trevor Hoffman's record of 601 saves and replaced it with 602. There are still more games to be played this season so he can add to his record even more. Earlier this year he also became the first pitcher in MLB history to appear in 1,000 games for a single team. He is a 12 time all-star and a 5 time World Champion in his 17 year career. Despite being 42 years old, he ...

The Gospel

Posted by David Kostenberger on September 18, 2011 at 10:10 PM Comments comments (0)

The gospel is a hard thing to sum up in one sentence. It's a hard thing to even completely understand. I'd say the one of the best ways to explain, share, and understand the gospel would be to start at the very beginning.

God created us flawless in perfect world. It had no problems, no pain, and no sin. Even though we had everything we'd ever want and more (an intimate relationship with God, a perfect lif...

Words

Posted by David Kostenberger on September 3, 2011 at 11:40 AM Comments comments (0)

Words are crazy things. With the flap of a tongue lives change. The very action of your mouth could change the next year, decade or century in a good way or a bad way. Your whole world can be changed through the words you speak. You can use words out of stupidity or you can be wise with your words. You can waste words or conserve words. You can make people feel like a king or like a piece of dirt. You can change the world with very few words or destroy it. God calls us to build each other up ...

Life's Not Fair

Posted by David Kostenberger on July 15, 2011 at 10:20 AM Comments comments (4)

One of the most common phrases made by kids and teenagers, even adults today is, "Life's not fair!" or "That's not fair!". I wonder what they would think if God made life fair?  If life really were fair then all of us would die and go to hell, end of question, because we are all sinners in need of a savior. But because life isn't fair and because Jesus paid the price for our sins by dying on the cross, we can have a relationship with God though Jesus.

Even though we were born de...

Claim to be a Christian?

Posted by David Kostenberger on July 4, 2011 at 9:55 PM Comments comments (0)

One thing I just don't get is that sometimes there will be a person who gets really popular, maybe because he or she is a singer or actor, and they at first claim to be a Christian and then they totally blow it by doing so many things that completely contradict God's word! I sometimes wonder if they were even Christians in the first place.

1 John 1:6 says, "If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth." Why are so man...

Ultimate Freedom

Posted by David Kostenberger on July 4, 2011 at 9:40 PM Comments comments (0)

July 4th is a great day to remember in history when we declared our independance from England. We declared that America was then a free country. Although you may not realize it freedom is never free. America paid a price for the freedom we now have. The millions of soldiers that have died for our country is one of the prices the we have paid.

Ultimate freedom is better than just what we have in the United States. It is a type of freedom that al...

Creation vs. Evolution

Posted by David Kostenberger on April 10, 2011 at 4:15 PM Comments comments (2)

In the beginning there was an intelligent designer who created all things; he also created man for a relationship with himself. He loved man and gave him everything that he could ever desire. However, a serpent deceived the man and the woman to wrong their designer, and they turned away from him. The designer cursed the man and the woman and cast them out of the close relationship, the perfect life they had with him. The man and the woman were without hope until their ...

Wingslikeagles

Isaiah 40:31 says, "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint." That's God's promise to Christians. God loves us so much that he came down to earth to die on a cross a painful death so he could pay the punishment for your and my sins. I've already accepted that I need a savior (we all do), I've believed and trusted in him and I've confessed my sins and asked for forgiveness f...
